Yesterday BMW celebrated its 100th birthday. For the next year, BMW Group will look ahead to the next 100 years with a special celebration called THE NEXT 100 YEARS. Things started yesterday with several events and announcements.
Events got started at the brand new BMW Group Classic building in Munich at the address where the company began. There executives held a pres conference to announce THE NEXT 100 YEARS activities.
Later that afternoon, around 2,000 people along with BMW Group associates gathered in Munich Olympic Hall for a multimedia presentation featuring all brands, including MINI. The company debuted the first of four Vision Vehicles: the BMW VISION NEXT 100. MINI’s Vision Vehicle will debut in June in London as part of the BMW Group World Tour.
BMW Group World Tour dates:
- Beijing (5-15 May) – BMW VISION NEXT 100 makes its Asian debut
- London (16-26 June) – MINI and Rolls-Royce Vision Vehicles to be unveiled
- Los Angeles (11-16 October) – BMW Motorrad Vision Vehicle makes its world debut
What will MINI’s Vision Vehicle look like? We don’t yet know. It could be a wildly futuristic manual- and self-driving concept like the BMW VISION NEXT 100 shown yesterday. Or it could be a reworked version of the MINI Vision Concept we’ve already seen. We’ll have more on this MINI in the coming months.
If you aren’t a German dignitary, celebrity, or associate of BMW, you can still experience a bit of THE NEXT 100 YEARS. Throughout the year BMW will release a series of volumes covering BMW past and future vehicles which will be bound into a book and sold later this year.
From the BMW Group press release:
BMW Group special centenary publication.
To mark the centenary year, a special publication will provide a wealth of information not only about the history of the BMW Group but also about key future issues, such as energy, demographic Change, globalisation, digitalisation and mobility. They will consist of a mixture of essays, reports, studies and interviews with experts, and reflect the diversity of the BMW Group as well as its brands BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad.
Volumes 9 – 12 are dedicated to the Vision Vehicles of the brands BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad.
In these volumes dedicated to the Vision Vehicle, the BMW Group design team will offer insights into how and why the vehicles were created.
As the centenary celebrations get under way on 7 March 2016, the series of publications will consist of just nine initial volumes to be distributed to a limited circle of recipients. In the weeks and months that follow, the remaining Vision Vehicle books as well as “Talking about Tomorrow” will be added to the collection. From October 2016 onwards the books will be available from bookstores as a limited-edition single volume.
I know I will be picking up one of these books and will have a full review later this year. In the meantime, The Daily Toggle will be following the activities and announcements during the yearlong THE NEXT 100 YEARS celebration and bring you all the MINI-related facts and photos.
